In recent years, the fantasy genre has received a resurgence of popularity. Many readers are returning to the well crafted stories of light fantasy stories in the hopes that they can once again feel the whimsical magic and be transported to another realm where they can escape the cares of the day to day world. The light and airy nature of this type of story is perfect for children and adults alike as it allows them to escape into a dreamlike world where they can cast their imagination and believe anything within reason. Here are some light fantasy castles that kids and adults can enjoy:
Mary Poppins and the Forest of Fear is a very beautiful and charming book written by Agatha Christie. This classic story still provides young and old with endless hours of enjoyment. It is a true love story between a young girl named Mary Poppins who lives in a large country estate in England and her faithful dog, Ginger. Poppins’ good friend Raggedy Ann shares her dreams and fantasies about living in a large country estate like Mary Poppins. But when Mary’s fragile condition in the middle of winter causes her to miss out on too much fun, she decides to visit Ginger in an illusionary world in order to spend time with her best friend.
As you might expect, a story about two dogs that spend time together can be very appealing to children. But what makes the Mary Poppins and the Forest of Fear fairy tale so special is the way in which Agatha Christie has woven the story into a brilliant narrative that is filled with pure wonder and imagination. The writing style of Agatha Christie is so vivid that her words come alive as she delivers every line of the story. The images are clear and the emotions are strong.
In the story, Mary and Ginger travel through a enchanted forest on the premise of finding a magical stone. However, they encounter many other animals along the way that seem to have supernatural powers. It is up to the young children to help them rescue Mary and ginger, and to discover the secret of their magic stones. This is a story that can appeal to both boys and girls and the author does a very good job of balancing the sexes in her light fantasy castles.
The illustrations in the book are quite detailed and really help to bring this wonderful story to life. I especially loved the way that Ginger and Mary were portrayed as real dogs. The light fantasy element was communicated effectively by the way the dogs moved and the way they made noises. It is also a nice touch to have a few talking birds that spoke in the book as well.
The only problem I had with this book is that it didn’t continue in the same direction. It left me wanting for more after reading the first couple of pages. I wanted to know what happened to Ginger and Mary as they continued their journey. However, the author did not offer more of a sequel in this book and I didn’t feel that this story was very strong.
Overall, this was a very positive and happy reading experience. I highly recommend that you buy and read “The Princess and the Strap” by Beverly Barton. It will add a new light fantasy role playing theme to your collection. You will enjoy this book as much as I did. It’s well-written with excellent illustrations that will grab your attention and hold it throughout.
If you enjoyed “The Princess and the Strap”, then you will love “The Princess and the Strap: A Fairytale Story”. It is a very enjoyable and exciting book that will keep you interested from start to finish. I highly recommend it. If you do not like fantasy books in general, but especially love the princess genre, then this is an excellent book for you to pick up. I would guarantee that you will like “The Princess and the Strap” and it will become just as much of a favorite book as “The Princess and the Strap” has been for me.
